Privacy & POPI Policy
Introduction
Welcome to The Wealth Report SA. This Privacy & POPI Policy outlines our practices regarding the collection, use, and protection of your personal information through our website located at wealthreport.co.za (“the Site”). The Wealth Report SA is published by Seventeen Ventures (PTY) Ltd, enterprise number 2024 / 453185 / 07 (referred to as “we”, “us”, or “our”). We are committed to respecting your privacy and ensuring the secure and lawful processing of your personal data.
Summary
The Wealth Report SA is an editorial publication. The Site does not host any form, login, or transaction that asks you for your name, email address, or phone number. Personal information collected through the Site is limited to technical signals automatically generated by your browser when you visit, described under “Personal Information Collected” below.
Personal Information Collected
We do not ask you to submit personal information through any form on the Site. We do automatically collect the following personal information when you visit:
- Your IP address and approximate location derived from it (country, city, region, postal code, and coordinates).
- Technical signals such as browser type, device type, the page you arrived from, and the page you are viewing.
We rely on legitimate interest as the legal basis for processing this automatically-collected information, used for measuring how the Site is read, detecting abusive traffic, and protecting the integrity of our Site.
We assign your browser a random visitor identifier on first visit so we can recognise return visits. This identifier is retained for up to 24 months from your last visit, after which it is regenerated on your next visit. It is stored locally in your browser and is not used for any purpose other than the measurement and security described in this policy.
Use of Personal Information
The personal information automatically collected is used to:
- Measure how the Site is read and which articles are popular.
- Attribute visits to advertising campaigns that link to the Site.
- Detect and prevent abusive or fraudulent traffic.
- Improve and secure the Site.
- Comply with legal and regulatory obligations.
Advertising links and click attribution
Some articles on the Site include advertising links to an advertiser’s website. When you click one of those links, your browser is sent to the advertiser’s site, and we forward a small set of advertising-attribution values with the navigation so that we and the advertiser can measure which articles produced real reader interest. The values forwarded are:
- Advertising campaign tags you arrived with (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, utm_term).
- Click identifiers from Google and Facebook (gclid, fbclid, fbp).
- A tag that identifies The Wealth Report SA as the referring site.
We do not forward your name, email, or phone number through these links, because we do not hold those values on this Site. Once you are on the advertiser’s website, the advertiser’s own privacy policy applies to anything you submit there.
Sharing and Disclosure of Personal Information
We do not sell, rent, or lease your personal information to third parties. Information may be shared with service providers (for example, our analytics and security vendors) to facilitate the operation of the Site, or to comply with legal requirements. Any third-party service providers are obligated to protect the confidentiality of your information.
Security Measures
We implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Despite our efforts, no security measures are impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information held by us, as well as to object to its processing. Requests can be made by contacting our Information Officer, whose details appear under “Contact Us” below.
International Transfer of Personal Information
If you are visiting the Site from a country other than the country in which our servers are located, your communications with us may result in the transfer of personal information across international boundaries. By visiting the Site, you consent to such transfers. Even if your jurisdiction does not have the same privacy laws as the jurisdiction where our servers are located, we will treat your information as subject to the protections described in this Policy.
Cookies and Browser Signals
The Site uses cookies and similar browser-storage technologies to assign an anonymous identifier to your browser, to remember your reading preferences, and to support measurement and attribution as described above. Most internet browsers accept cookies by default; you have the option to set your browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when one is being set. Note that rejecting cookies may limit your ability to use certain functionality on the Site.
Aggregate Data
We may use and share aggregate or de-identified data about Site readers (for example, the number of readers per article, the distribution of devices used, or the geographic distribution of traffic) for editorial planning, advertiser reporting, and lawful business purposes. Aggregate data does not identify individual readers.
Minors
Visitors under eighteen (18) years of age are not the intended audience of the Site. We do not knowingly collect information from visitors under eighteen.
POPI Compliance
We are committed to complying with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) of South Africa, which sets the legal standards for the processing of personal information. In particular:
- Accountability. We take responsibility for the personal information in our possession and have appointed an Information Officer to oversee compliance.
- Processing limitation. Personal information is processed lawfully, minimally, and in a manner compatible with the purposes for which it is collected.
- Purpose specification. Personal information is collected for the explicit purposes described in this policy and is not used in a way that deviates from those purposes without further consent where required.
- Openness. This policy is publicly available and is updated when our practices change.
- Security safeguards. We employ appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, damage, and unauthorised access.
- Data subject participation. Readers may exercise their rights of access, correction, deletion, and objection by contacting the Information Officer.
Changes to This Policy
We reserve the right to update or modify this policy at any time. Material changes will be communicated through the Site.
